Pollara-Messina victory at Nebrodi

After an initial battle with Casella they win the second race of the season. Ferraro-Bruno and Longo-Longo complete the podium. Modica and Messineo stand out among the historic ones

Third victory on the roads of the Nebrodi Rally for Marco Pollara, supported for the occasion by his trusty Maurizio Messina on the Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo. Pollara, already winner last April at the Sosio, continues his pursuit of the Zone Rally Cup, his seasonal goal. Bitter epilogue for Alessandro Casella, first in the last edition, who was the absolute leader until the PS4. Flanked by Isabella Gualtieri on the Fabia Rally2 evo he was forced to raise the white flag on SS5 due to a mechanical failure, leaving the way open for his direct opponent Pollara who took off towards victory. Second place overall for the locals Filippo Ferraro and Cono Bruno returning to the race after 6 years of absence on a Skoda Fabia R5, capable of containing the strong comeback of Nunzio and Roberto Longo, in difficulty in the initial stages on yet another Fabia Rally2.

At the foot of the podium are Placido Palazzo and Gianfranco Rappa on the dated but spectacular Peugeot 207 S2000 who, during the last special, overtook the locals Carmelo Galipò and “Davis”, competing on the more powerful Skoda Fabia R5. Sixth position overall and record among two-wheel drive cars for the Peugeot 208 Rally4 of Andrea Licata and Michele Castelli who, in the final kilometers of the race, overtook Ernesto Riolo and Maurizio Marin competing in a sister car.

Of the 105 cars at the start, 75 saw the finish line in Sant’Angelo di Brolo. Among the numerous retirements, worth mentioning in addition to that of Casella, are also those of Giuseppe Princiotto, Giuseppe Gianfilippo and Salvatore Scannella due to mechanical problems with their cars.

Victory among the historic cars for Giovanni Modica and Calogero Messineo who, taking advantage of a ten-second penalty inflicted on Marco and Gianluca Savioli for a delay at a time check, took home the overall and third grouping in a Porsche 911. Savioli forced to being satisfied with second place overall, he achieved victory in the second group on the trusty German 911.
