Today, Sunday 15 June, a thousand faithful gathered at the sports field in via Felluga in San Luigi to participate in the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice, Eid Al-Adha, promoted by the Islamic community of Trieste. The event, which began at 08:00, is one of the most significant moments for Muslims and coincides with the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The Feast of Sacrifice represents one of the most important anniversaries in Islam and is based on the commemoration of Abraham’s test of faith. The day was marked by collective prayers and moments of sharing, with the aim of strengthening social and cultural ties between members of the community.

“The memory of the sacrifice of the prophet Abraham is actually a celebration common to all three monotheistic religions,” declared Akram Omar, President of the Islamic Community of Trieste, at Trieste Cafe at the end of the celebrations. “Today is a day of celebration and joy for the Muslims of Trieste and around the world, although overshadowed by the pain and sadness of what is happening in Gaza and Palestine, where innocent civilians are affected daily”.

The celebrations highlighted not only the growth and integration of the Muslim community into the social fabric of Trieste, but also their ability to keep tradition alive in a context of brotherhood and solidarity, despite global tensions.
