Conte tries for Lukaku, Chelsea asks for 44 million

The Neapolitan coach would gladly embrace the Belgian striker again, but the Blues are aiming for the definitive transfer and payment of the clause

That of Romelu Lukaku remains a very hot name in these first weeks of the summer transfer market. The Belgian, who returned to Chelsea after the loan to Roma, he is one of the protégés of Antonio Contewhich he will most likely lose Victor Osimhen (Arsenal are strong on the Nigerian) and are looking for an international center forward capable of replacing him. The Naples he would therefore be ready to start a negotiation to bring Big Rom back to Italy, even if at the moment the demands of the Blues they are quite important.

According to Corriere dello Sport the English club he would no longer intend to let him go out on loan and, indeed, he would like to try to definitively free himself from his very heavy contract (10 million plus bonuses per season until 2026) and monetize from payment of the termination clause (which amounts to 37.5 million pounds, i.e. approximately 44 million euros). These are naturally very substantial figures, almost prohibitive at the moment for a team that will not take part in the next Champions League.

In any case, it cannot be ruled out that it is more about strategy than anything else, also because Chelsea also has to deal with the Premier League Financial Fair Play and is forced to raise cash by June 30th. This is why he could be satisfied with even reduced figures (20-25 million for the price tag) in order to get rid of what, for all intents and purposes, is just a redundancy.
