“The situation of the Piazzone and the surrounding streets, historically the heart of Viareggio commerce, is an open wound in the city. For this reason we ask for clarity on the redevelopment project both from the administration and from the private sector, but while waiting for these answers it is necessary to ground an extraordinary plan that restores safety and decorum.
This is the joint appeal of Cna, Confesercenti, Confcommercio and Confartigianato after a meeting between the respective presidents Andrea Giannecchini, Francesco Giannerini, Piero Bertolani and the director Roberto Favilla. “Unfortunately, every day the situation worsens – explain the leaders of the four associations -, with widespread degradation that damages both residents and commercial activities. A situation that must be addressed with immediate intervention both from a safety point of view, intensifying the checks especially in this summer period, which of the decoration, starting with a completely lacking street furniture”.
But the main issue according to the leaders of Cna, Confesercenti Confcommercio and Confartigianato remains the one linked to the redevelopment project. “Unfortunately we continue to remain in the dark about the state of the art of the project presented years ago by Mercato srl. A project of which we only know the modification linked to the number of kiosks which, according to the Superintendency’s requirements, have been reduced to six. We ask that the municipal administration finally let us participate in the situation – insist Giannecchini, Giannerini, Bertolani and Favilla -, if the expected costs for the recovery of the loggias and the square are still the same, and if the changes still make the investment sustainable Information that gives us a precise picture of the times and methods of an intervention that must start quickly to save the Piazzone from the current degradation”.
The four associations, Cna, Confesercenti Confcommercio and Confartigianato, will be present, with their representatives, at the public event promoted by traders and residents on June 19th. “To bring our support. All united in the desire to restore dignity to an area always the heart of Viareggio. With a constructive spirit, without looking for counterparts – they conclude – there is the interest of an entire city and therefore we must all row in the same direction”.
