Details on the funeral of Luciano Marani, the 84-year-old from Cesena who was the victim of a road accident which occurred on Friday afternoon while he was traveling along the E45 near San Carlo, will be known in the next few hours. The man was driving a Fiat Panda and was traveling along the high-speed artery towards Rome when, for reasons still being examined by the Bagno di Romagna traffic police officers, he lost control of his vehicle, colliding with a truck coming from the opposite direction. In fact in that stretch, due to the works in progress, traffic is diverted onto a single carriageway, with two-way traffic. Saying goodbye to Marani is a community that over the years had known him from both an entrepreneurial and sporting point of view. As regards the first aspect, he had been active in the road transport sector and also in the real estate sector, since he had had, among other things, a central role in the construction of the ‘Cesena Anni Novanta’ residential and commercial complex, located in center of the city, between via Piave and via Angeloni. On a sporting theme, however, his name is linked to the world of women’s basketball, in the years in which Ahena Cesena won everything. He was part of the club that won the scudetto and the Champions Cup between the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, also becoming president. In fact, he even raised the Ronchetti Cup won in the 193-1994 season to the sky. The tragic news has thrown the basketball world and beyond into dismay, so much so that yesterday many people from Cesena wanted to express their condolences for Marani’s passing.
