The Palio of San Ranieri lights up

Come back tomorrow, Monday 17 June, on the day of the patron saint of the city of Pisa, the Palio of San Ranierithe challenge in the Arno between the four boats representing the historic districts of the city: Saint Francis (yellow boat), Saint martin (red boat) Saint Mary (celestial boat) e Sant ‘Antonio(green boat).

The main event of June in Pisa will begin with the competition of 19 boats, which will compete for 1,500 meters upstream from the Cittadella bridge, to the headquarters of the Arno rowers, until arriving at the Scalo dei Renaioli. The race will be preceded by historical river parade with 4 boats and the presence of 20 figures accompanying the Saint’s altarpiece.

In the afternoon, before the parade, the second edition will take place Pisa Naval League Trophywhich will be held over a distance of 500 metres, in the stretch of the city’s Arno between Ponte di Mezzo and Ponte della Fortezza from 2.30pm to 5pm. The zonal sprint race, valid for the national ranking and reserved for the male and female teams of categories cadets, students, boys, juniors and seniors on Elba.Jole boats, is organized by Italian Fixed Seat Rowing Federationtogether withAsd Billi of Pisa and with the collaboration of Lega Navale Pisa and the Italian Federation of Aquatic Rescue.

Around 3pm, however, the workers will come into action and, together with the Municipality staff, will begin to work light the 100 thousand candles on the Arno riverside.

Returning to the Palio, each frigate is made up of eight rowers, the helmsman and the fitter. At the finish line, the latter has the task of climbing one of the 4 ropes that reach the top of a 10 meter high flagpole and grabbing the blue palio, symbol of victory.

Finally, in order to allow the event to take place on Monday, some are planned traffic changes. Among many, from 5pm to 10pm closure of the Fortress Bridge to vehicular transit in the north-south direction.

Lungarno Galilei, stretch between the Fortezza Bridge and Vicolo Lanfranchi: closed to vehicular transit; parking ban with forced removal except for organization vehicles; suppression of the cycle path and ban on pedestrian transit on the pavement due to the positioning of stands.

From 05:00 to 22:00:

Piazza San Sepolcro, part facing Lungarno Galilei: establishment of a parking ban with forced removal, to allow the positioning of sales structures; temporary abolition of the spaces reserved for vehicles serving disabled people and moving them to the immediate vicinity.

Piazza Solferino, former Palazzo Enel side: establishment of a parking ban with forced removal, to allow the positioning of sales structures;

the east side travel lane, south/north direction, of the Fortezza bridge, i.e. the one that leads from Lungarno Fibonacci to Lungarno Buozzi, will be left open to normal traffic.

The Tuscan Bus Lines will divert their urban lines, informing users at the stops and terminus.
