In Savona the council approved on Monday morning a 3,167,925 euro budget to use the free surplus from the budget closed on 31 December 2023 as well as further resources that were added after the approval of the budget forecast.

The provision establishes that a share equal to 50% of the available surplus, equal to 1,600,101 euros will be set aside on a prudential basis and that resources equal to 3,167,925 euros will be used to carry out interventions and works to improve the city and services to citizens in the ‘current year.
In particular, the council has decided to concentrate spending mainly on these chapters:

- 635,224 euros for extraordinary interventions of maintenance of municipal buildings, sports facilities, play areas. This chapter also includes the design costs for the elimination intervention risk of flooding of the nineteenth-century Quadrilatero
- 382 thousand euros for interventions on ordinary maintenance, implementing the maintenance chapter of municipal roads and that of public lighting and providing two new chapters relating to street furniture and the white water collection network
- 412,900 euros for expenses related to cultural, tourist, events and social initiatives with a quota for extraordinary expenses for Savona’s candidacy as Capital of Culture
- 675,000 euros for the Social Promotion service for interventions regarding assistance to minors, the elderly, the disabled and for municipal participation in inclusion projects
- 312,500 euros for the acquisition of the ATA share of the Sacred Heart car park
- 144,000 euros for redevelopment interventions on the streets of the city center, a sum that is added to the 276 thousand euros already foreseen in the budget forecast and ai 500 thousand euros provided for by the regional fund intended for the redevelopment of newly pedestrianized streets.
“We all know – is the comment of Mayor Marco Russo – that the city has many needs, all pressing, which require resources much greater than those available and which therefore can only be addressed with patience and gradualness. However, on the one hand, we wanted to address some emergencies, such as expenses for social services and ordinary maintenance, and, on the other, to give signs of relaunch with the purchase of the Sacred Heart car park and the redevelopment of the pedestrianized streets, to give a concrete signal with respect to ongoing projects, and invest in the city’s attractiveness policy, starting from the Italian Capital of Culture project and the cultural events that make our city more alive”.
“It’s an important maneuver – concludes the councilor to the Budget, Silvio Auxilia – and it should be underlined that we have decided to set aside 1.6 million euros, to continue the line of caution and budget rigor. At the same time, however, with a truly collaborative effort by the entire council, we wanted to provide answers to some priority issues”.
