Trentino is among the provinces most faithful to taxation

The Tax Office has 190 interconnected databases covering 43.3 million taxpayers and keeps 2.4 billion electronic invoices and 1.3 billion pieces of income information every year. With such a detailed tax registry, according to the CGIA of Mestre, it shouldn’t be difficult to identify the tax evaders. Why, however, the CGIA asks, is tax evasion still very high and amounts to around 84 billion euros a year? If the tax office has 190 potential tax bills for each taxpayer, it shouldn’t be difficult to track down those who don’t pay. And instead only about twenty billion are recovered. Therefore, according to the CGIA, we know almost everything about who is known to the tax authorities, while we are groping in the dark about tax evaders. For the Mef, tax evasion in Italy is 83.6 billion euros. In absolute terms, the lost revenue affects the most populated regions which are also those where the concentration of economic activities is greatest – such as Lombardy with 13.6 billion euros of lost revenue, Lazio with 9.1, Campania with 7, 8 and Veneto with 6.5. The most faithful to taxes are the Autonomous Province of Trento with an estimated evasion of 8.6%, Lombardy with 8% and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano with 7.7%. The national average is 11.2%.
