“Decentralization in Messina? The regulation in autumn”

MESSINA – Two years of the Basile Council: what stage is decentralization at? Yesterday a comment from the president of the III Municipality, Alessandro Cacciotto: “Listening to the press conference of the municipal administration, it is embarrassing not to have been able to spend a single word on decentralization for the branch councilor (Pietro Currò, ed.). Yet the first resolution hesitated by the municipal council was even that of addressing the creation of the Seventh Municipality. As if increasing the number of Municipalities was enough to solve things.”

Then the clarification from councilor Currò: “No controversy with the president, with whom I clarified. In recent months, there have been many meetings with the presidents of the districts and, in some cases, with councilor Minutoli. I have accepted the requests of all the presidents and their municipalities. Now they must be harmonized and calibrated on a technical level. The proposals on decentralization have been evaluated by the administrative director of the Department of General Affairs of the Municipality, Laura Strano, and now it is up to the general secretary, Rossana Carrubba, and the municipal machinery in general. Consequently, the regulation on decentralization will land in the Council in the autumn. We are also moving forward in the Seventh Municipality.”

This is what he expressed himself in July 2023: “We must implement decentralization, starting from the approval of the regulation. I will try to study and think of a single reference center for the neighborhoods. I was a city councilor for 15 years and they were fascinating years because the city councilor has a precious opportunity: the power to express his ideas on the microphone.”
