thieves on the run with 50 thousand euros

The thieves specialized in attacking ATMs are back in action and this time they go to Bitonto, in the centre, where the heist, preceded by a violent explosion, was carried out against the Monte dei Paschi di Siena credit institution in progress Vittorio Emanuele. More than a theft, something similar to an attack.

But precisely because of the violence of the operation, at the beginning it was not clear how much they managed to steal. In the end, it was estimated that the gang managed to take away around 50 thousand euros. The attack took place in grand style: three-pointed nails on and a large boulder in the road to escape, the explosive, inserted with the “marmot” technique, into the ATM. And so a commando of five people (four of whom actually took action) scored the blow.

It was around 04.30 when, according to what has been reconstructed, the bandits, dressed in mechanics’ overalls and with their faces completely covered, stopped an Audi in the center of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, a few steps from Palazzo di Città, and detonated the automatic teller machine with an improvised device, the so-called “marmot”. It is a tube with a terminal on which gunpowder is placed which is inserted into the slot of the ATM, thus blowing it up.

Then, after having unhinged the chest, they grabbed all the money, transporting it to the car inside some plastic bags, while an accomplice, holding a pickaxe, pushed away the Night Watch officers who were approaching the place after the activation. of the alarm system. Having completed the attack, the bandits moved away at very high speed, leaving numerous three-pointed nails and a large boulder on the road to help them escape towards the city centre.
