The twenty-seventh edition of Tende al Mare – historic artistic installation on the beach of Cesenatico – that’s all dedicated to the Tour de France which will leave from Cesenatico on Sunday 30 June. “Grand Départ” is the title of the original art exhibition which will be inaugurated on Thursday 20 June at 8pm on the free beach of Piazza Andrea Costa. Le Tende al Mare is compared this year with the summer event that arrives in Cesenatico in memory of Marco Pantani.
The thematic choice was immediately shared by the historic partner of this event, theAcademy of Fine Arts of Ravenna, protagonist of both the first and most recent editions: the students thus painted 10 tents inspired by the protagonists of the Tour and the sport of two wheels, all characterized chromatically by the bright yellow which is the color of this competition. To the ten tents of the Academy, there are another ten created by the guests of the Socio-occupational center of La Nuova Famiglia onlus Cesenatico, with the breakdown of the Grand Départ logo with the depiction of the “icons” of the cities touched by the Italian stages.
This year too, therefore, the tents will be the occasion for a figurative and visual game which will involve the public in a decidedly original and unconventional place such as the Cesenatico beach. This is moreover the strength and originality of the “tents by the sea” 27 years after their first edition, due to the happy intuition of the Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo who inaugurated the initiative in 1998. As is known, the “tents by the sea” sea” are made on handcrafted tents modeled on those once used on the beach before umbrellas; the event then established itself among the national summer events for the originality of the formula, for the quality of the proposals, and the ability to make art in its varied forms dialogue with the general public, starting from a totally informal like that of the beach.
The initiative has always been a stable and decisive partner of the initiative Cooperative Bathing Establishments of Cesenatico, which guarantees the daily lifting of the curtains and their surveillance every day; again thanks to them, it will also be possible to admire some tents from previous editions set up at the other free beaches of Cesenatico, in the Ponente and Levante areas. It should not be forgotten that since its first edition the event has been linked to a solidarity initiative: this year too the auction of tents by the sea will take place during the summer: anyone who wants to make an offer to purchase a tent you can do so by contacting the Volunteer Council of Cesenatico, which will allocate the proceeds to social projects.
“The 2024 edition of the Tende al Mare is special and the dedication to the Tour de France was perfectly successful thanks to the artists who lent themselves to this idea and managed to perfectly capture the spirit of an event that will be sporting, tourist, historical and will screen Cesenatico live worldwide for many hours on the day of the stage. This piece also contributes to making Cesenatico special also because the tents by the sea are unique”, the comment of the mayor Matteo Gozzoli.
