The Sabir association finally has a place to call home. The new headquarters hosting the Crotone association, which has been involved since 2017 in the field of education, the fight against educational poverty, social inclusion, the fight against inequalities, the fight against poverty, was inaugurated on the afternoon of Friday 14 June. of solidarity and international cooperation. It is located in Crotone, at number 16 of Viale Stazione: a two-storey building for a total of 500 square metres, equipped with a welcoming outdoor space for recreational activities and relaxation.
On the ground floor of the building, which has been completely renovated, there are rooms that welcome operators and volunteers involved in the association’s projects and activities: the listening desk, the solidarity tailor’s shop, the room for the protected listening of minors victims or witnesses of violence, the ‘A Casa di Iulia’ center which offers psychoeducational and speech therapy services for children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders. On the first floor, however, there are the administrative offices, a large meeting room and a small kitchen to really feel at home, even while you are at work.
Cutting the ribbon, surrounded by the affection of many friends, collaborators and representatives of other associations in the area, were the president and vice-president of Sabir, Manuelita Scigliano and Giuseppe Di Gioia, who retraced the extraordinary path of the association in his first seven years of life.
“Ours – declared Scigliano – is not a simple job, but a real mission. We have gone through many difficulties and will probably go through many more, but the belief that we can do it has never abandoned us. And here we are: in an area accustomed to resignation, we are demonstrating that beautiful realities like ours can not only continue, but can also improve, becoming a point of reference for the entire community”. Di Gioia thanked everyone for their presence, explaining that “the third sector becomes strong if it is united, being together and networking, with the sole objective of carrying forward the requests of the most vulnerable people”.
The mayor of Crotone, Vincenzo Voce, also participated in the inauguration, recalling the fundamental role of the third sector both from the point of view of social intervention and employment opportunities. Also present was the deputy commissioner of Crotone, Leonida Marseglia, who underlined the importance of associations and volunteering in the territories, because they intervene in those spaces where public administrations often fail to enter.
The municipal councilor Enzo Poerio, representing the administration of Casabona, did not want to miss the event, making available the land on which the therapeutic farm will be built for the production of donkey’s milk and onotherapy, foreseen by Bosco, the latest project promoted by Sabir and supported by Fondazione con il Sud.
