“If the Region really wants to start a season of reforms starting from the Sicilian land reclamation consortia, we are happy about it. Do it quickly and well, you don’t need a law just to do it. We are ready for discussion, now as in the past, so that this challenge of change is won by everyone with the approval of fair and effective legislation”.

The general secretary of Filbi-Uila Sicilia, Enzo Savarino, intervenes, commenting on the news on a resumption of activity at the Ars after the European elections which will be characterized by the examination of one of the longest awaited measures: the reform of the Land Reclamation Consortia.

Savarino’s words

“Drought, fire alarms and hydrogeological instability of the territory – states Savarino – are the emergencies of an agriculture in crisis that must be addressed with structural measures, not with buffer measures, in the interest not only of the workers in the sector but also of consumers. Of all of us.”

The union representative adds: “Being able to have Consortia capable of fully expressing their potential is a priority that Filbi-Uila, also with the authoritative and repeated appeals of the national secretary Gabriele De Gasperis, has been urging for some time. Let’s hope it’s the right time. We hope the time has come to resolve the critical issues that we have repeatedly indicated, starting from the payment of salaries, the retraining of staff and the start of a stabilization process for temporary staff”.

“The reform guarantees employment levels”

Enzo Savarino concludes: “The reform law guarantees employment levels and availability of resources, protecting and enhancing workers. With a sense of responsibility and maximum decision, as we have already said in the past, we are ready to dialogue with the regional institution to improve the proposed law as requested by the many signatories of the petition launched by Filbi-Uila in which we demand the completion of the turn -over to fill all the gaps in the organic plans, a path out of precariousness, the retraining of employees and overcoming the dispute, in addition to the immediate and seamless transition into the new Consortia for all workers. Nobody excluded.

The eighteen hundred employees of the Consortia, almost half of whom are on fixed-term contracts with employment guarantees of 151, 101 and 78 days, are indispensable resources for the primary sector and for Sicily. The Regional Assembly, this is our hope, will be able to take this into account.”
