The Catania Pride committee reminds you that the large procession will be held on Saturday 15 June which will start at 6.30pm from Piazza Cavour and wind through Via Etnea and then end in the early evening in Piazza Università. After the procession, which is expected to start at 5pm, the big final party will take place at the Esagono Beach Club in Acicastello.
The slogan “Queer Resistance”
“The slogan chosen this year is “Queer Resistance”, in a historical moment in which our identities are attacked, in a political and historical-social context that is not very favorable for our demands”, says the committee. And in fact it doesn’t take long to understand the delicacy of the moment for the entire system, with controversies even during the meeting between the G7 leaders in Puglia.
As we remember in our political document, «we are still subjectivities marginalized and discriminated against by that system which, as in a complex game of Chinese boxes, contains within itself various levels of critical issues to fight against».
The patriarchal system
A “patriarchal system” that “has its roots in a gender asymmetry that confers specific tasks and privileges on masculinity, relegating all other realities to the margins, from women to non-conforming identities”. A system “whereby those who do not fit the “norm” – male, white, straight, cisgender, Catholic – must suffer discrimination and violence.”
We, faced with this system which is also economically unjust and unsustainable, as well as violent, want to act “as agents of change, as revolutionary subjectivities, through a path that leads, immediately, to obtaining the rights of existence that we have need; and to arrive, in perspective, at the subversion of a paradigm which has discrimination and violence as the main notes of its composition and its reason for being”.
Catania Pride 2024, consistently with what is expressed in our document, is characterized in a strongly anti-fascist sense, taking sides against the atrocities committed in Palestine and against all wars.
