In Ragusa new urban public transport service with Etna Trasporti

As they usually do, in Ragusa they transformed the new urban public transport service into an event, into an enterprise, after the renunciation, truly a miracle, of the disastrous AST.
An event, complete with a press conference, photos and statements, and who knows how many more will arrive, for ordinary administration, for a choice that should have been adopted years ago, with an efficient public service responsive to people’s needs .
In other important centers in Sicily, equally orphaned, fortunately for them, of the AST service, they thought about replacing the manager in time, as in Syracuse, Augusta also recently has the new service, both are managed by SAIS, everything started without trumpet blasts. Nearby Modica also enjoys the new SAIS services.
With us the usual sauce and, consequently, the expectations are on a par with the smoke served.
There is talk of 13 lines, connections with the Donnafugata Castle, preferential lines for Ibla and public transport also in Marina di Ragusa, all included in the context of the mobility and urban traffic plans.
Expectations are high, everything will boil down to the need for functional transport that can allow you not to use private transport.
Until we manage to empty the city, especially the historic centre, of cars, money will be wasted, also because only elderly people will continue to get on the buses, possibly free of charge, as they are entitled to.
It will be necessary to increase the cost of paid parking, it will be necessary to free large areas from cars, people will have to be convinced, for environmental reasons, not to use private transport to go to work.
Without all this, it will just be fluff.
We will see in practice what the new service has in store for us: it will be essential to allow us to go, at all hours and with continuous frequencies, from the center to the Selvaggio area or to Viale delle Americas, we will have to have the possibility of attending the City Council by going in the center with the public bus and to be able to return home by the same means, until late in the evening.
You should be able to have dinner and have transport to go home, during the school term there should be the possibility for everyone to accompany students by public transport.
We’ll see, in practice, for now we prefer to mess around with Ibla, with the Donnafugata Castle, with Marina di Ragusa. We stand at the window, watching.

One of those at the window, the group leader of the 5 Star Movement, Sergio Firrincieli, who already sees a broken service, as he pointed out during the City Council session.
But, for Firrincieli’s findings, a necessary distinction must be made.
As regards the Ragusa – Marina di Ragusa and Ragusa – San Giacomo connections, these are urban connections, within the municipal territory but served, on the basis of specific regional authorizations, by bus lines as if they were an extra-urban connection.
It’s absurd, but going to undermine regional regulations and authorizations of the first republic is certainly a difficult task, even the line serving San Giacomo is an inter-provincial connection, Ragusa -Noto. If you look closely, the connection to Marina also serves the municipality of Santa Croce Camerina.
A complex situation, which, however, needs to be worked on.

Another problem that Firrincieli brings to the attention, however, a much more important one, is that of connections with the nearby, densely inhabited districts of Ragusa and Marina di Ragusa.
Not providing adequate new service for these areas is wicked, returning to the need to use public transport, would mean relegating the districts to the role of Cinderellas of the city, in which they are forgotten by the administration.
Especially around Marina di Ragusa, a public service to and from the districts is essential and the councilor for the districts and suburbs should also take charge of the problem.
Not having foreseen and clarified all these aspects is a serious matter, unless everything falls within the new strategies of the administration, of the “there is no money, never mind” line, except that in these cases they also say: “when will we do the new contract, we’ll think about it”, there is a new contract here, but they haven’t thought about it.
But as the young political boys who have jumped on the Cassì bandwagon say: “We have four years to go…”
