Close real-time air monitoring in Monza

Monza under special surveillance air quality. Monitoring of the quality of the air that residents breathe is starting in the city and will be carried out in five areas via a series of control units that will detect the data in real time. This is one of the initiatives included in the Smart city project (contract awarded to Acinque with A2A) which Cuba 40 million euros in about twenty years and which will also include the redevelopment of public lighting, a digital signaling system for free parking, and other urban elements, with a view to digital transition. The control units, devices slightly smaller than a shoe box powered by solar panels, are being installed on a series of street lamps. From there, the modern technology they are equipped with will be able to tell at intervals of 30 minutes a series of data among which the concentration of the main polluting agents such as PM2.5 and PM10. These are public enemies number 1 for Monza which in the rankings of Italian cities (but not only) has repeatedly excelled for bad air quality and persistence in exceeding the concentration limits of these agents. On the other hand the province is one of most urbanized in Italywith a black mark in last year’s rankingIspra.
The control units will be placed in five areas focused on by the municipal administration, with a series of supports, as the most sensitive to the issue of air pollution. The installation started from Largo Mazzinibut will follow Taccona-Baradello and the intersection via Adda-via Mameli, via Lecco-Cantore-Libertà, Cavallotti-Pellettier.

The monitoring results will provide a solid basis for the municipal administration to plan correction initiatives.
