LAMEZIA TERME A fire the likes of which had not been seen for some time, which exploded just as the city, in recent days, entrust your prayers and hopes to Saint Anthony.
Everything was clouded, however, by a very thick blanket of smoke that literally invaded the city of Lamezia Terme and, in particular, the Nicastro district.
The origin of the fire – as almost always happens – it is near the highly contested Roma camp of Scordovillo. Apparently, it all started with the fire of some brushwood, and then spread to a pile of rubbish. This was enough, however, to unleash the usual hell in the city: unbreathable air, smoke and the usual – inevitable – anger of the people of Lamezia.
Usual fires, therefore, same script: on social media all the desperation and frustration of the citizens of Lamezia, with the smoke – a few steps from the hospital – which “ruined” one of the most awaited days of the year with the procession of the Patron Saint. From calls for citizens’ responsibility (few) to messages addressed to the mayor and municipal administration, accused of not having been able, so far, to eliminate the Scordovillo “problem”. And then the usual political attacks, starting with that of Masi’s PD: «The propaganda optimism of Mayor Mascaro in recent months, which relied on the substantial economic aid from the Calabria Region, is the sign of further failure of a policy made up of slogans and proclamations which translate into concrete damage for citizens, from economic and health point of view. The numerous and publicized inter-institutional meetings which were presented as the panacea for all ills, with hypotheses of immediate solutions – given the availability of eight million euros – are struggling to provide concrete answers to the city”. And again: «The center-right in the national and regional government and the municipal administration, led by the mayor, stop just doing propaganda, the elections are over. The time has come to nip in the bud all these episodes of toxicity that undermine air quality to the detriment of all citizens with adequate control measures. The Roma issue cannot be resolved with proclamationsbut with a collective and systemic process of the entire administered community.”
