A reflection on the local vote of 8-9 June. When in Forlì a coalition wins in the first round, with an even better result than that achieved in 2019, we must take note of it as we should when faced with a democratic verdict. And the fact that almost forty percent of voters did not go to the polls is a question that should require in-depth reflection on the part of all political forces, and first and foremost the opposition. As a voter of the centre-left coalition, but not a party militant, I hope that the left-wing political forces do not limit themselves to stating “we had a good electoral campaign and we have nothing to complain about”.
It is very difficult for a confrontation to take place only in the few months of the electoral campaign. Regardless of the decisive contribution that mayor Gian Luca Zattini had from the Forlì Cambia civic list, intelligently coordinated by councilor Paola Casara, the fact of the enormous gap on the left between the European vote and that for the renewal cannot be avoided of the city council. It is clear that the PD and the party of Bonelli and Fratoianni (not to mention the Five Star Movement) have not managed to adequately intercept the needs, expectations and hopes of the people of Forlì. And this has been happening for several years.
I wish mayor Zattini (but also the minorities) the rediscovery of an aspect of the legacy of mayor Sauro Sedioli, who in the first half of the nineties emphasized the fundamental value of popular participation and the need to seek constructive dialogue and of the broadest convergences between all the council groups when faced with decisions of particular importance for the common good. As a simple citizen, I am still awaiting a response to my request to call new elections as expected for the Council of new immigrant citizens, also celebrating in a more heartfelt and solemn way the conferral of Italian citizenship to those to whom it is due. In conclusion, I extend special appreciation to the Rinnoriamo Forlì civic list for the quality of its commitment and a sincere and confident wish to the young newly elected councilors in various groups.
