BARI (ITALPRESS) – “In recent days Italy has been at the center of the world and the eyes of the world have been focused on us. It was a great responsibility and I am proud of how our nation has once again managed to amaze and lead the way.” Thus the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in a video published on social media.
“We closed the work of the G7 summit under the Italian presidency and we adopted the final declaration, an extremely significant document which contains the many commitments that the G7 has decided to undertake, concrete and real commitments which concern key issues for our present, for our future and on which the summit reaffirmed its unity of purpose, its unity. It confirmed that it is not a sort of closed fortress that must defend itself from something or someone, but an offer of values that opens up to the world, that wants to build shared development and growth,” he added.
“For the first time in history, this G7 also spoke about governing migratory flows. We agreed that it is necessary to build coordination at an international level and develop a new strategy based on different guidelines, starting from the need to build a global alliance against human traffickers and thus systematize efforts to combat a fold that fuels the flows of illegal migration and represents a new form of slavery – underlined the Prime Minister -. I am also very satisfied that in the final declaration the common commitment was reiterated to address the root causes of migration, to guarantee the first of the rights, which is the right not to have to migrate, that is, not to be forced to leave one’s home while being able find the conditions for one’s own fulfillment in one’s own land”.
“With the final declaration, the G7 made some specific commitments. We will continue to support Ukraine, we have chosen to systematize our efforts and different lines of action with a 360-degree approach to help the Ukrainian people look to the future. The G7 reiterated this commitment and reached an agreement for additional financial support linked to the extra profits deriving from Russian assets immobilized in our jurisdictions – said Meloni again -. In the declaration there is also full convergence on the conflict in the Middle East. We confirmed our support for the US mediation proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a significant increase in humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. The G7 reiterated every effort to avoid escalation in the region and for a lasting political solution to the crisis with a two-people, two-state solution.”
