Fabio Cavini: “The traders in the historic center are business brokers, but not entrepreneurs…”

Here’s who governs Viterbo… – Viterbo – The husband of the mayor Frontini at the Bruzziches house on the evening of 26 September

Viterbo – “The traders in the historic center are not entrepreneurs, but business brokers destined to close down…”. “And history will tell him…”. If they don’t get together “they die and it’s their own business”. Fabio Cavini thus evaluates the critical situation in which the commercial activities of the historic center of Viterbo have found themselves for years.

It is the evening of September 26, 2023. Cavini and Chiara Frontini are having dinner at the home of councilor Marco Bruzziches and his wife Anna Maria Formini. A political-convivial meeting wanted by the mayor’s husband. With the mayor telling Bruzziches that she “invited herself”. An evening put in black and white by the prosecutor’s office in via Falcone e Borsellino who transcribed the entire recording of the meeting.

Prosecutors Massimiliano Siddi and Chiara Capezzuto, moving, together with others, from that recording, requested that Frontini and Cavini be sent to trial on charges of threatening a political body in competition. After a complaint from councilor Marco Bruzziches and the investigations that followed. The hearing before the Gup Giacomo Autizi is scheduled for November 21st, in via Falcone e Borsellino, Palace of Justice. The prosecutors had also asked for immediate judgment, which was rejected by investigating judge Rita Cialoni.

Viterbo – Fabio Cavini

On the evening of 26 September, trade within the walls was among the topics under discussion. The shop owners are not doing well and “Christmas (that of 2022, ed) – as Cavini himself admits – it was disgusting”. However, and it is Cavini who says it again, from that moment on the administration has held various events for the centre. Events that, however, Bruzziches counters do not help shops that sell clothes. Indeed, for the councillor, “those who sell clothes get pissed off”. At that point Cavini replies “No, I’ll stop you – it appears from the recording – the one who sells the clothes closes down, regardless of Frontini”. “Let’s tell them,” suggests Bruzziches. “No – the mayor’s husband reiterates – they should know… So either you decide to be entrepreneurs…”.

The councillor, a little later in the discussion, returns to the topic. “Go and explain to the traders – underlines Bruzziches – that they have to close”. “But history will tell you that, right?”, explains Cavini.

Viterbo – Corso Italia

Cavini also proposes a solution, a natural shopping centre. But to be able to achieve it “you need three figures: a director, a manager and advertising, but done in a certain way. So to do this stuff in a municipality like Viterbo it goes from 600 to 800 thousand euros, it depends on what you want to do, below these figures are saws, so you have to create a brand identity, with naming and face and then you have to go below. Then afterwards it takes the manager who says: ‘How many clothes shops are there?’. Example, I give a stupid example. Two hundred, one hundred must close and open this type of product category.”

The discussion on the traders in the historic center continues and the mayor’s husband continues with his analysis by asking a question. “Why do traders close?”. “Because the rules have changed,” Bruzziches replies in turn. “Because this kills them, regardless of anything else – Cavini takes up the word again -… Second, there is an individualism; third, they are basically business brokers, but they are not entrepreneurs because, if they were… because if the historic center of Viterbo all got together for real and they would be… and otherwise they would die and that’s their business”.

Presumption of innocence

In the Italian criminal system the presumption of innocence applies until the final sentence. Presumption of innocence which is based on article 27 of the Italian constitution according to which a person “is not considered guilty until finally convicted”.
