“We are aware of the controls in place but we cannot even do justice to ourselves” is clear Concetta Morana, resident of the Scicli area, former municipal councilor and leading figure in the field of solidarity and hospitality. The recent news events, which culminated a few days ago with a quarrel with harsh and dangerous tones in the Mediterranean square heart of the upper part of the Sciclitana village, have led to a daily presence of soldiers from the Carabinieri with the aim of monitoring the day and night life of Cavadalgese. Concetta Morana is showing her face. She denounces without letting herself be overcome by fear, aware that it takes courage and a great spirit of legality to fight the phenomenon.

The truth is one: there is a lack of serenity among residents and holidaymakers.

Holidaymakers who, at the start of this summer season, are flocking to the seaside village of Scicli, known for being a very beautiful spa resort for pulmonary and asthma treatments. Over half a century ago the journalist Clementina Lauretta and her husband Vittorio Perrone, both no longer alive, chose Cava d’Aliga first for their holidays and then to live there permanently. They chose it for the healthiness of the air, for the serenity that could be felt there. Healthiness that is unchanged today, serenity that is missing today. “The Mediterranean square and the immediately surrounding areas have become a place of drug dealing and score-settling, forcing us citizens to stay locked up at home terrified, especially at night – says Concetta Morana – we love our neighborhood and it breaks our hearts to see it transformed into the worst of the slums. The situation has become intolerable and, for this reason, we ask for greater controls and a greater presence, day and night, of the police. We appeal to the Prefect. We tell him that we want to be able to be calm at least inside the house. Last year, in spring, the first signs of strange movements of children. The police did a lot with checks. They were useful? What is certain is that, for a couple of months, we have been experiencing a resurgence, that resurgence which culminated in the quarrel a few days ago.”
