CREMONA – Year 1874. «Vittorio Emanuele II promulgated the law regulating the exercise of the profession of lawyer and prosecutor».
Year 2024: «We have 150 years of history behind us, but stopping there would be a huge mistake. We must think about the next 150 years, we must be focused on the future, knowing that we have a great past behind us.” For the 150th anniversary of the Bar Association, the president Alessio Romanelli with his advice he does things big: a gala dinner last night in the enchanting cloister of the Santa Monica university campus. Two hundred and twenty lawyers, magistrates, authorities, presidents of other professional associations.

Future generations — young legal practitioners — and the teachers who still have much to teach. It is Ermete Aiello85 years old, historical column of Crema.
Togas in the studio, elegance parades in Santa Monica: very legal in tuxedos, colleagues in long ones. The buffet and dinner (excellent), the DJ Davide Guareschi and a drone that ‘flitters’. And of Christian Fabiano, degree in Educational Sciences, lawyer mother, videomaker by passion. He will create the video as a souvenir of the gala dinner.

The eyes of the mass media are also focused on the mayoral candidates who will compete in the runoff: Alessandro Portesani for the centre-right, Andrew Virgil for the centre-left. But the election campaign is – rightly – outside Santa Monica. It’s the evening of the robes. And, therefore, the lawyers’ wives of the candidates. Portesani arrives with Anila Halili (she is also treasurer of the Young Lawyers Association of Cremona); Virgil with Elena Guerreschi (she is also president of Aida, the association that helps women victims of violence). The candidates take a step back at the gala dinner.

It’s the evening of the lawyer from Crema Martino Boschiroliawarded (and applauded) with the golden toga: 50 years of registration in the Register.
After the thanks, in his speech President Romanelli accompanies colleagues and guests on a 150-year journey. Of course, «I cannot tell the story of 150 years of the Order this evening – he says – but it seems right to me to remember a key figure, that of Ettore Sacchi, lawyer of the Court of Cremona and Minister of Justice, whose centenary of death is celebrated this year.” Applause. Romanelli cites two dates: September 21, 1945the rebirth of the Bar Association of Cremona, first president Giuseppe Cappi; March 20, 1948the birth of the Order of Crema, first president Clemente Sinigaglia. Remember, Romanelli, all the presidents before and after the merger of Crema into Cremona. Remember the first person registered in the Cremona Register, Maria Baltieri in 1940, therefore Elena Soldi Castelli in 1954, and the lawyer Nicoletta Mansueto, registered in the Crema Register in 1957. «It was a purely male profession. It is right to remember the example and professional life of our colleagues.”

President Romanelli continues: «As a figure who can represent the entire Forum, I remember that of Giuseppe Cappi, the first post-war president. He was also elected to the constituent assembly, he was part of the commission of 75. He was appointed judge of the Constitutional Court on 30 November 1955 and was president of the Constitutional Court from 4 March ’61 to 20 October ’62. I believe that he is a very important figure in our history and he represents us all.”

To draw a profile of Cappi, Romanelli takes inspiration «from the words of a great lawyer of the Court, the senator Ennio Zelioli Lanzini, who was also president of the Senate.” And that «on the occasion of his speech to the Senate, he said of Cappi: ‘Simple citizen, sober, modest in appearance, faithful servant of the State, great in prestige, in example, in teaching’. Our entire evening is dedicated to the memory of Giuseppe Cappi”, underlines Romanelli.

One hundred and fifty years: «It’s a story that concerns the entire area». Next to Romanelli, the coat of arms of the Bar Association «which, appropriately, reproduces the symbol of both the city of Cremona and the city of Crema and Casalmaggiore. We have 150 years of history behind us, but stopping there would be a huge mistake. We must think about the next 150 years, we must be focused on the future, knowing that we have a great past. I’m starting the lawyers’ gala dinner. Long live the free legal profession, long live the Court of Cremona». It is also President Romanelli’s evening, to which, the lawyer underlines Roberto Guareschi of the Council of the Order, «thanks are due not only for what he has done, what he is doing and what he will do, but, above all, for the passion and dedication he puts into it».
