REGGIO EMILIA – Mattia Camarda he was born 15 years ago suffering from profound deafness. Since his birth he has been followed by the Audiology and Otosurgery structure of the ASL of Reggio Emilia directed by Doctor Giovanni Bianchin. It was thanks to the newborn hearing screening that Mattia was diagnosed with deafness: at the age of 1 he underwent a cochlear implant at the Santa Maria Nuova hospital with complete hearing recovery.
Member of the Heron of Bagnolo, in recent days he fulfilled a dream of his by taking to the field in Rome with the national selection in the Italian basketball championship organized by the Italian Deaf Sports Federation, scoring 14 points among other things. “This is an example of early diagnosis and treatment carried out at the right times – comments Dr. Bianchin – We are proud that Mattia is achieving these excellent results which we also feel are partly ours”.
