Thursday 13 June at 6pm, there Sabe Foundation for Art hosts the conference Evolution of Claudio Marra’s landscape photography, curator of the exhibition ITALIA REVISITED #1. Image samples by Massimo Baldini.
The exhibition, which will continue until June 30th at the Sabe Foundation for art, offers the opportunity “for a reflection on the derivations, paths and models of language proposed by landscape photography in the period between the last two decades of the last century and today”.
Baldini’s production “is evidently related to the great season of Italian landscape painting, opened in the 1980s by the group of authors who gathered around the figure of Luigi Ghirri. A front in turn in dialogue with an international line of research that must be understood in its historical origins traceable to some protagonists of the early twentieth century. During the meeting Claudio Marra will trace a critical path within this event full of suggestions which has contributed to making photography an undisputed protagonist of the contemporary artistic system”.
The event, sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Ravenna and the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus, will be an opportunity to present the catalog of the Italia Revisited #1 exhibition. Claudio Marraformer full professor of History of Photography at the University of Bologna, through texts that constitute a point of reference in the sector (from Le idee della photography 2001 to nelle ombre di un dream, 2004, from L’image infedele, 2006, to Photography and painting in the twentieth century (and beyond), 2012, from Photography and visual arts, 2014 to What is photography, 2017) investigated from a historical perspective the relationships between photography and visual arts, as well as those with the specific sector of fashion, together with theoretical aspects linked to the identity of the medium and the problems opened by the transition from the analogue to the digital system.
