Sandro Vitale, AMPA 25 April: “If people don’t go to vote, or less than 50% turn out, there must be a reason. People have realized that they are just spectators. For the inhabitants of the Strait, the construction of the Bridge will only bring disadvantages.”
Giuseppe De Felice, CGIL Metropolitan Area Reggio Calabria: “The open City Council must be safeguarded regardless. I represent one of the 5 and a half million cavemen of the CGIL. The City Council should at least ask for a suspension on the Services Conference.”

“Europe of thieves”
Pino Siclari, Communist Workers Party: “the absences today don’t surprise me (of FI and Lega, ed.). They are specious, many times they are own goals. Those who are absent demonstrate a violent and arrogant contempt towards the populations they say they want to represent. The mask falls, in this dilapidated Europe, but there are those who have the courage to oppose it. If the work were feasible, we would enter an irreversible spiral. Environmental rights would be erased forever. They want to build the Bridge in a Mediterranean where migrants go to die. It is a Europe of thieves and territorial devastators”.

The first interventions
Below are the first interventions from citizens.
Giuseppe Marra, legal representative of USB Calabria: “this work is defined as strategic, but perhaps by divine will. Let’s think of Monti and the liquidation of the Stretto di Messina company. This construction site will probably never close. The Bridge has no value on anything, neither strategic nor future.”
Vincenzo Musolino, Villa San Giovanni PD Club: “we have reached a point of no return, where the City Councils of Reggio, but also of Villa and Messina, must express themselves regarding this work. The update to the project is full of holes, tests not carried out, seismic risks not detected. The VIA-VAS procedure said that everything needs to be redone. This is a pantomime from the League and the Right to the Government, towards our territories”.
Architect Francesco Manti: “Our people cannot continue to suffer useless and harmful colonial works. This project is the expropriation of our future. The City Council of Reggio Calabria declares the suspension of the acts”.
Giovanni Cordova, contact person for Rete No Ponte Calabria: “Even if the Bridge will never be built, in reality it is already there. The project is anachronistic, it takes us back to almost a century ago. We know what this territory needs and we know that the Bridge is not needed. High Speed is a gamble, an act of speculation. We ask the City Council to block the project.”
Daniele Cartisano, President of the Legambiente Reggio Calabria club: “this work hangs over our heads. We are absolutely against it because the Bridge does not take into account the needs of the area.”
