On Tuesday 11 June 2024, the Articolo97 civic movement obtained a meeting with the Commander of the Urban Police of Trani Leonardo Cuocci Martorano and the councilor Cecilia di Lernia on the actions planned for road safety on Via Falcone and other roads.

The note:

«The representatives of the movement, Giuseppe Curci and Raffaele Covelli, reiterated their disagreement with the installation of a single pedestrian crossing in via Falcone, clearly insufficient for normal road safety; Commander Cuocci justified himself by stating that that single system was the best that could be done in a street with numerous constraints, among which the most important and impactful is that related to the weekly market.

In fact, having overcome the useless references to the hospital, we came to the conclusion that, both for the assigned places and for the walkability but especially for the vehicles (which have long since replaced the more classic stalls), it is not possible to apply speed bumps on the road , increases or other types of slowdowns that would endanger people and damage vehicles.

Articolo97 proposed to also add reflectors (called cat’s eyes) to the road safety package on various pedestrian crossings (not only on via Falcone), a well received proposal.

Both interlocutors focused on the quality of the pedestrian crossing system purchased: in addition to having reminders for pedestrians, they are powered by solar panels and have a type of lighting which, thanks to the special paint used to design the pedestrian crossings, allow greater visibility to the users of that passage. It will certainly be a modern and cutting-edge facility.

Speed detection systems will certainly be positioned also on via Barletta and via Papa Giovanni XXIIIin addition to those under maintenance in via Bisceglie, with the promise to install one also in via Falcone.

Furthermore, the Commander showed himself willing to request the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to experiment with a Information system for speed control (better known as Tutors or Safety Tutor) in a small area, without intersections, of the aforementioned via Falcone.

The two representatives of the Administration made themselves available to improve road safety throughout Trani and also took good note of Articolo97’s report on the mismanagement of public green areas: in particular the uncultivated greenery has covered much of the road signs in via Bisceglie, therefore making it very dangerous. The Secretary of Articolo97 Raffaele Covelli forwarded the photos collected in that area to the Commander and, here too, a very rapid restoration intervention was promised.

Commander Cuocci authorized the forwarding all the photos of the Articolo97 reports and also those collected on Trani REPORTS (the Facebook group created and managed by the movement itself) relating to disruptions and road dangers since, based on the framework agreement between the Police and AMIU, the Municipal Police has the task of intervene promptly; they would therefore be willing to collaborate in this sense.

The President of the movement, Giuseppe Curci, then strictly insisted on the creation of sidewalks on the railway side of Via Falcone, in front of the supermarket and the bar and in front of the building, sidewalks which would be preparatory to the creation of further pedestrian crossings. Finally, Articolo97 invited Deputy Mayor Ferrante to be urged to implement these also works in economics with concrete flooring.

It was therefore a cordial and fruitful meeting requested by the Articolo97 movement which, thanks to the stubbornness and continuous commitment of its members, will bring more safety on the roads of our city».
