Unless there are surprises or unexpected developments, SPAL will not buy Nicola Dalmonte from Vicenza on the last day available to activate the contractual option included in the August 2023 negotiation. The redemption was set at a figure of 180 thousand eurosand if SPAL obviously seemed to be initially interested, things then changed in light of different assessments.

The reason for the decision is first and foremost of an economic nature: as written a few days ago, Dalmonte’s case is a little more complicated than the other players on loan. If it is true that the figure in question for the price tag seemed to represent a not insurmountable obstacle even for the not exactly overflowing blue-white coffers, to complicate the situation there is a contract much above the standard of the C series, and the crux of the matter can be summed up with the fact that SPAL, by saving on Dalmonte’s salary, will be able to move on the market with a little more ease also to explore more than one interpreter of category.
Also not to be underestimated on a personal level are the attractive alternatives that a coveted player on the upper level can have: it is no coincidence that since the end of the championship Cesena has been spoken of as one of the teams most attentive to the Dalmonte situation, certainly not the ‘unique. It’s also no secret that Dalmonte has ambitions to play in B series after a high-level championship like the one we just experienced. His choices therefore can only be traced back to a possible move up in category, not to dissatisfaction with Ferrara and Vicenza, places for which the player himself has repeatedly underlined his appreciation for him.

Added to the economic situation is also the blue and white sporty side: if a few weeks ago the presence of Mr. Di Carlo on the SPAL bench for next season was taken for granted and established, to date, despite cautious optimism, it is still not possible to know who will be the coach in Via Copparo. The uncertainty, also of a tactical nature, therefore further hinders the possible confirmation of one of the drivers of SPAL 2023-2024.

To complete the picture, the Vicenza, fresh from the playoff final lost against Carrarese, does not seem to have Dalmonte in his future plans and will evaluate all possible solutions while awaiting important offers. The remote scenario in which SPAL could redeem the player and resell him to monetize is unthinkable and unrealistic: given the dynamics of the current market, especially in the first two months, the hypothesis of purchasing a player and cashing in is not at all obvious more than what was paid for it.

Dalmonte therefore closes his blue and white parenthesis with 23 appearances, 5 goals and 3 assists.
