Ragoleto-Dirillo dam, Confagricoltura Ragusa raises the alarm in a note: “the situation remains blocked, while the Ipparino farms are dying”.

“After our activation – explains Confagricoltura – to ask for more functional management of the Ragoleto-Dirillo reservoir, which serves the Acate-Pedalino sub-district (around 1200 companies, including structured companies that employ thousands of workers and which extend for several thousand hectares), there was a meeting in the Prefecture, another at the Reclamation Consortium, the President of the Region was involved, the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions asked for the intervention of HE the Prefect, request also shared by the mayors of Comiso, Acate and Vittoria. All this did not help to move the situation one millimeter, nothing has changed compared to before.

As Confagricoltura Ragusa has already explained in previous communications, in the past 3,000,000 m3 of water were supplied to the Ipparino farms from the Ragoleto dam, of which approximately 2,000,000 m3 were used. Now the companies will be supplied with 600,000 m3, without considering the quantity of water that is physiologically lost through evaporation. A quantity well below the physiological needs of local farms.

At the EniChem plant, where there is a desalination plant that is not in operation, 1,800,000 m3 will continue to be supplied, a significant quantity, disproportionate compared to the needs of a plant that operates at low capacity.

“We have moved from concern to awareness of the ongoing drama”, declares the Director of Confagricoltura Ragusa, Giovanni Scucces. “We reiterate our appeal to all the institutions involved – he adds – to put in place decisive interventions that can no longer be postponed, time is over and we cannot helplessly watch the death of our agricultural and livestock companies”.
