The community of Casacalenda turned blue to celebrate one of the most significant sporting events of the year: Italy’s extraordinary successes at the European Athletics Championships. In the week just ended, Italian athletes won 11 gold medals, 9 silver and 4 bronze, bringing home a total of 24 medals which testify to the talent of our athletes.

Among the protagonists of these triumphs stands out Gianmarco Tamberi, who dominated the high jump competition, winning the gold medal and thrilling the fans with an impeccable performance. Other Italian athletes also contributed to the medal table with extraordinary performances. Among these, the names of Marcell Jacobs stand out, gold in the 100 meters, and Antonella Palmisano, who triumphed in the 20 km race walk.

To pay homage to these exceptional results, the Casacalenda bell tower was lit up in blue, a symbol of national pride and passion for sport. The mayor Sabrina Lallitto expressed all her emotion and gratitude with a post on social media: “Italy’s athletics game has given us incredible satisfaction in the last week! Long live the sport that always excites!”

The symbolic gesture is also a message of encouragement and hope for all Italian athletes, in view of upcoming sporting commitments. In fact, the community’s attention now shifts to the national football team, ready to face the challenges of Euro 2024. The mayor concluded her message with a special wish: “And now let’s cross our fingers for our national football team! Tomorrow we start.”
