Costa Crociere and Trenitalia: new charter trains between Savona and Genoa

As part of the agreement active from August 2022 between Costa Crociere And Trenitalia for the study of integrated ship-train travel solutions, which enhance the territory and its characteristics, a new service for cruise passengers on Costa ships calling at Savona, who will be able to purchase excursions for visits to the city of Genoa and take advantage of a dedicated charter train.

Cruise passengers on holiday on Costa ships and who want to make excursions to Genoa during the day of the ships’ call in Savona will use a shuttle service that will take them from the Palacrociere to the Savona station where they will find the train service dedicated to them available. After a stop in Genoa, to admire the city or visit the Aquarium, the train will take cruise passengers back to Savona, to return to the ship via the shuttle service. The connection became fully operational on 8 June.

«This new offer – he declares Giuseppe Carino, senior vice president Guest Experience & Onboard Sales Operations of Costa Crociere – reinforces our commitment to the development of more sustainable onshore operations, which favor alternative forms of transport, such as rail transport. We are pleased to expand our offer of sustainable passenger transport, focused on some connections with the destination ports of Costa Crociere ships, which joins the similar Civitavecchia – Rome connection already available today”.

Mario Alovisi, Marketing director of Trenitalia, specifies: «The charters from Savona are part of a wide-ranging strategic project that Trenitalia and Costa intend to strengthen. Intermodal transport is one of the pillars of Trenitalia and we intend to build a multimodal experience in each port that accompanies cruise passengers from the first to the last mile on a “green” journey that includes the train. It is a commitment that we have undertaken both in Italy and in the ports of other Mediterranean countries, thanks to our foreign subsidiaries and Frecciarossa, Eurocity and Euronight; so that customers can travel in an increasingly efficient, sustainable and comfortable way.”

Among the various initiatives of Costa Crociere and Trenitalia there are also the study of local electric feeders that connect the port and the station, with the contribution of other companies of the “Passenger Hub” of the FS Italiane Group, and of “last tourist mile” railway connections port-city-airport.
