Caserta Hospital, organ donation: scientific conference on 17 June

Caserta – Since the beginning of 2024, out of 8 brain death observations, there have been 3 i multi-organ harvests performed inAgency “Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano” Hospital of Caserta, which made it possible, thanks to the generosity of donors and their families, to rekindle life expectancy in patients waiting for a transplant, and there were 35 declarations of willingness from citizens to donate organs, tissues and cells, collected .

The data will be commented on during the training conference on the topic “Organ Donation: Implementation of Culture and Safety regarding Donation and Transplantation”which will take place in the main hall, Monday 17 Junefrom 8 am, to promote the culture of organ donation.

“The initiative is among the numerous activities undertaken by the Aorn of Caserta to increase the number of donors, constituting a priority objective to be pursued”, declares the health director, Angela Annecchiaricowhich has given strong impetus to the sector, sharing passion and determination with the multidisciplinary team specifically created by the Caserta hospital for activities dedicated to organ donation, with the involvement of healthcare workers belonging to the local coordinator of Organ and Tissue Donations, Patrizia Tidonaand to the contact person at the Help Desk for Transplants, Giovanna Verrillo.

The scientific event is organized in collaboration with the Regional Transplant Center of Campania and is divided into three sessions, aimed at describing the organizational and operational machine of the Aorn in the specific field, through the reports of directors, specialists, nurses and technicians of the Operational units of the Caserta Hospital and a representation of the staff of the Regional Transplant Center with the doctor Barbara Leone and Dr Vincenzo Del Judge.

The first session will examine the role played by the Transplant Friendly Help Desk, by the Regional Transplant Center with a focus on organizational and communication aspects, and by the Local Coordinator. The second session will delve into the individual medical, medico-legal, technical and nursing aspects of the process of observing brain death – maintenance of the organs to be removed – collection, illustrating the national guidelines regarding the suitability and evaluation of the donor. The third session will focus on corneal harvesting and follow-up activities for liver and kidney transplant recipients.

“The symposium – declare the organizers Tidona and Verrillo – aims to promote and nourish the culture of organ donation, starting from the operators of our hospital, so that everyone, in sharing it, can be its ambassador. Transplants save lives, but without organ donation, there can be no transplants: this is our message, our mantra.”

The works, starting at 8.45 am, will be introduced by the greetings of the strategic management. The doctor’s report will follow Anna Fabriziowhich for over twenty years has been the driving force behind the donation process in the Aorn of Caserta as head of Organ and Tissue Donation Coordination.
