All ready this afternoon at Reggio Calabria for the start of the seventh edition of Med Youth Meetingthe international youth meeting of Mediterranean. The event, organized by the Med Youth Network with the support of the REF (Réseau Euromed France), in close collaboration with Mana Chuma Teatro, has arrived on the Strait this year after the editions held in Paris, Casablanca, Algiers, Tunis, Marseille and Beirut.

The meeting involves around eighty young people from 17 countries in the Mediterranean basin (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey), engaged in civil society in associations or on an individual level. From Tuesday until tomorrow I will be in our city to discuss issues such as employment and professional training, civic participation, migration and mobility, social and climate justice, freedom of expression and creation.

First meeting today

This afternoon at 5.30 pm the “Quaroni” Aula Magna of the University of Mediterranean Studies will host one of the key moments of the meeting: the public debate “The situation of young people in the Mediterranean: between challenges of emancipation and obstacles to mobility”. Mobility between the shores of the Mediterranean, but also in certain marginalized European regions such as Calabria, is one of the major obstacles that young people encounter on their path to growth and individual fulfillment.

In the first part of the debate we will talk about the current situation of young people in the countries of this area of ​​the world and the challenges they have to face, while in the second part there will be direct testimonies from boys and girls from the south and north of the Mediterranean.
