The Reggio Calabria affair is very perplexing and represents, most likely, a cross-section of our society that is often ignored or hidden. It is not the first time this has happened and, therefore, it insinuates the idea of a sick political system subject, in part, to mafia gangs. Given, however, that from a criminal point of view there is a presumption of innocence, for which it is hoped that the suspects will be able to demonstrate the absence of responsibility, the issue is, however, of great importance from an ethical point of view. The criminal trial will continue and, therefore, the prosecution will have to demonstrate the relevance of the facts reported, while the suspects will have to prove their innocence. But this is not of interest, also because our justice takes a very long time and, therefore, has an impact, at present, only from a media aspect. What, however, cannot be tolerated is the lightheartedness with which one has relationships with mafia environments which, naturally, legitimize this, on the one hand, and, often, on the other, condition the freedom of action of those elected. A vulnus heavy for the democratic system which also strongly affects both the credibility of the electoral competition and the distrust that now exists among citizens. This is one of the reasons for the profound abstentionism! Today, therefore, this disturbing cross-section of the Reggio Calabria system must make us reflect and must lead to correct initiatives on the part of the institutions: we cannot continue to ignore the events that have affected the city, just as we cannot turn the other way . The contacts between some elected officials and the ‘Ndrangheta are widely proven and, therefore, from a moral point of view, there is already pollution and social alarm which represents a very serious condition, which must lead, at the very least, to the sending of a commission of inquiry. . Two different measures cannot be used: in Bari, perhaps for much less, there is an ongoing verification, in Reggio Calabria, despite repeated episodes, everything is silent. Silence is collusion and represents a way to support the mafia system. So, let everyone do their duty without it self and without but! Respectable citizens can no longer stand this situation which severely limits freedom and the democratic and civil system.
