The Monument to all those fallen in times of war and peace of the Guardia di Finanza was inaugurated

Legnano – Mountain, sky and sea: all the Fallen in times of war and peace of Financial Police Legnano commemorates them with a monument.

“StWe are grateful to all the financiers who have honored the flame of the Guardia di Finanza with their courage and dedication. This symbol is in perennial memory, so that it arouses gratitude and gratitude in citizens”, so the Provincial Commander of the Guardia di Finanza of Milan, Gen. B. Francesco Mazzotta, next to him the Regional Commander of Lombardy, Gen. D. Giuseppe Arbore intervened in Legnano, where on the morning of Thursday 13 June, the Citizen body of the Financial Police inaugurated the monument dedicated to its fallen.

What a solemn ceremony he saw Children’s Street, the place where the Monument was positioned, fill up and welcome a military parade in which all the military, civil and religious forces of the city took part. Also present Councilor of the Metropolitan City of Milan Sara Bettinelli and cheered by Jubilate Choir.

An inauguration that falls in the year of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza which dates back to October 1774 – the Legnano garrison was opened on 1 October 1931 – and strongly desired by the Lieutenant Colonel of the Legnano section Biagio Maurizio Agosta: “during the traditional tour of the memorial stones on November 4th I noticed that the city was missing a Monument to the Guardia di Finanza, so I immediately requested one from the Municipal Administration to be able to create it”, explains Lieutenant Colonel Agosta.

A request that was immediately accepted by Mayor Radice. “It is a symbolic request for cooperation between institutions and law enforcement agencies. We have choosen this area, –opened in 2009-, because it is a central area of the city, but still little known. Furthermore, Via dei Bambini, inaugurated in 2012 and dedicated to the young victims of the mafia, still today struggles to enter the collective imagination of the city. CWith this inauguration we want, in addition to paying homage and honoring the commitment of a historic military presence, also to bring to life these places which are passing through, but of great significance“.

The Monument, a granite stele, created by the artist Francesco Murano and blessed by Monsignor Luca Raimondi, it contains various meanings within it: the summit of Monte Rosa, from which the Guardia di Finanza takes its origins and the symbolism of the mountains where the men of the Fiamme Gialle wrote pages of heroism. The flame dedicated to the fallen and, on the back, the heraldic coat of arms of the Corps. There is also the writing “From the Alps to Sicily, Legnano is everywhere”.
