Mayor Enrico Trantino kicked off the activities of the Council of Presidents of the six Municipalities of Catania in the Palazzo degli Elefanti. Flanked by the councilor for Decentralization, Alessandro Porto, and the president of the municipal council, Sebastiano Anastasi, the mayor listened to the “voice” and the requests of the neighborhoods conveyed by the six presidents of the municipalities: Francesco Bassini, Claudio Carnazza, Maria Spampinato, Rosario Cavallaro, Antonino Vincenti, and Francesco Valenti.

The heads of the municipalities, supported by the director of Decentralization, Fabrizio D’Emilio, informed the mayor about the activities of the decentralized administrative structures and exposed critical issues or problems to be resolved in synergy with the departments and municipal managements involved.

Among the topics brought to the table for discussion are the lack of staff in all municipalities (which we will try to overcome with the next competitions and vertical progressions), maintenance, the adaptation of spaces and rooms to the needs of office staff , the viability of some roads, problems relating to the water service or the lack of connection to the sewerage network in specific areas. Furthermore, issues relating to fire prevention, the need to increase the spaces intended for civil protection emergency activities, as well as the need to strengthen awareness and communication initiatives on separate waste collection were addressed.

The meeting formally started the process of applying decentralization, as foreseen by the specific regulation, through a collaboration process started with the meeting of the Council of Municipal Presidents together with the councilors and the president of the Municipal Council, and extended to directors of the offices and investee companies, in order to streamline bureaucracy and make the apparatus of the six municipalities as efficient as possible.
