When we talk generically about school, in bar conversations, we often tend to emphasize its shortcomings and weaknesses. Yet there are many positive experiences in schools, including in our area, which deserve to be told more. As in the case of the Fabio Besta professional institute in Treviso, where today there are multiple addresses (commercial services for the web community, commercial design services for visual and advertising communication, services for health and social assistance, cultural and entertainment services , Social and health services), an institute which, thanks to funds from the Pnrr, the national recovery and resilience plan, has managed to implement the “ABC Project – A better chance, to prevent school dropout”, which is giving excellent results .

“Thanks to these funds and this broad project – declares the manager of the Besta of Treviso, Renata Moretti – we are carrying out many activities: from after-school activities to individual orientation meetings, including innovative workshops ranging from robotics, to mindfulness, danceability, now also a mural course. Furthermore, in recent weeks we have opened a reorientation desk for those who have to change high school after a year, which immediately received great appreciation. Because, as an institute, we don’t only look at the educational aspect in the strict sense, but we also work on the person, on the more purely psychological and relational aspects, to help adolescents to strengthen themselves and have more tools and arrows to their bow, to build the own life plan, starting with choosing the right school. If we are able to offer such a broad and qualified training offer, we do so by virtue of the funds that have been assigned to us, but also thanks to the valid teaching staff that I am fortunate enough to coordinate”.

The school reorientation desk

The initiative is aimed at students in the first year of high school in the area, who have realized that they made the wrong choice of secondary school. The desk, which has already been fully booked, is managed by expert guidance counselors and psychologists, is free and helps children, but also their families, who need to change schools.

“The help desk began operating last May 30th and will continue throughout the month of June, at the headquarters of the Besta Institute in Treviso – explains manager Moretti -, in Borgo Cavour 33. It provides a series of interviews with expert guidance counselors and psychologists, to support students who, in the first year of secondary school, have encountered academic difficulties or experienced situations of fatigue and discomfort and are rethinking their choice. In this final phase of the school year, for some of them, it may be necessary to plan a reorientation towards other institutions. The meetings with the experts at the help desk help the children to face and explore their difficulties, deciding their scholastic-professional path with greater awareness and serenity. A serenity that is also transmitted to parents.”

Danceability workshops and murals

Among the other various extracurricular proposals, which Besta students can access spontaneously and voluntarily, there are also the danceability workshops, started last year, and the mural workshop.

“Danceability is a dance technique that is aimed at everyone, with or without disabilities. Born in the United States at the beginning of the 90s – comments the manager of the Besta project, Laura Ragazzo – it is a discipline that involves people with and without disabilities, offering them the possibility of meeting and exchanging in dance, thanks to the improvisation technique . It is based on respect and listening to others, through physical dialogue. Here the course lasts about ten meetings, an hour and a half each, for a group of maximum 22 girls and boys. It is a proposal managed by qualified teachers and we were able to appreciate the advantages it offers, since it is a discipline that helps to become aware of one’s body and the relationship with others, helping to better manage emotions and anxieties, which after Covid have amplified.”

Another interesting school project is that of the mural, which is taking place in recent weeks, thanks to which the students are decorating a wall of the Besta headquarters in via Medaglia d’oro. “From planning, to the development of creativity, to group work – adds the responsible teacher Ragazzo – it is an additional opportunity that we offer to our students, to learn, learn to collaborate and discover something more about themselves”.

In short, many activities designed for a school that is attentive to children, their needs and their specificities, as inclusive as possible, which reduces the specter of school dropout.
