CROTONE Physical education teacher and “Crotone native”. Mimmo Borelli, however, in addition to his scholastic commitment, he boasts a long activity with football teams of every category. Not least the one from athletic trainer of theAtalantathe team that took the last place Europa league.
This afternoon, during a ceremony which was held in municipal council chamber of Crotone he was awarded theSolemn commendationpursuant to the Regulations for the granting of civic merit.
The solemn commendation constitutes recognition for citizens for their personal contribution to the improvement of social coexistence resulting from generous commitment in the field of work, in the production of goods, in professions, in commerce, in sport, in assistance to the needy, in management political and administrative aspects of public and private institutions as well as for his exemplary affection and interest towards the city and community of Crotone.
To deliver to “Prof” Borelli the parchment with the reasons contained in the council resolution, proposed by the sports councilor Luca Bossiwas the mayor Vincenzo Voce. Also present with the mayor and the councillor president of the IV Council Commission Domenico Lo Guarro.
A life dedicated to sport as reported in the reasons for the award: «During his career he achieved results of national and international prestige. Results obtained solely thanks to his professionalism, competence and dedication to his work, giving prestige to the city of Crotone, towards which he has always renewed his sense of belonging, bond and love. With the humility that distinguishes him, he has contributed to the growth of entire generations of Crotone athletes, not only from an athletic point of view, educating them about respect, legality and responsibility. Values that the organization itself intends to pursue in all its activities. In every professional context he has always renewed his sense of belonging and love towards his city.”
Mimmo Borelli’s experience as an athletic trainer for professional teams began with Crotone 2003-2004 C1 series championship, coach Gianpiero Gasperini, also in his first championship with a professional team. And for both it was a successful first season which ended with the promotion to Serie B. Since then it has been a continuum of successes for Mimmo Borelli crowned by many championships won. With Crotone also the joy of promotion to Serie A, Ivan Juric trainer. Then the divorce from Crotone and again with coach Gianpiero Gasperini at Atalanta. For what Mimmo Borelli has been doing as an athletic trainer in the last five years with the Goddess (as Atalanta is called by its fans) is considered among the best trainers at European level and the best in Italy, so much so that he was awarded by the Federation with the Golden Chronometer. His last success was on 22 May when Atalanta won the Europa League by beating (3-0) the German team Bayern Leverkusen. International sports critics gave Atalanta credit for the success also due to the good physical preparation of the entire team. Faced with what the Crotone native Mimmo Borelli is doing in the world of football, the municipal administration was not insensitive and decided to confer the solemn commendation on Professor Mimmo Borelli. And it was a very emotional Mimmo Borelli who this afternoon thanked the city, the Administration and the clubs with which he worked as an athletic trainer.
«I am thrilled – said Prof Borelli – because I receive recognition from my city. I am a son of this land and every time I return I find the affection of my people. I thank the administration for this commendation”, added Borelli who, in handing over two shirts to the mayor and councilor Bossi signed by Lookmanthe protagonist of the night in Dublin, recalled that experience lived alongside Gasperini, the coach with whom he also lived important seasons in Crotone.
«Prof Borelli – said Mayor Voce – represents a source of pride for the Crotone community. A fundamental point of reference for young people. A person dedicated to work with a commitment never separated from personal sensitivity. He represents an example for the younger generations”, concluded Mayor Voce.
