Her name is Alessia Conti and she is 17 years old, the student at the Gentileschi art high school in Carrara who won the ‘Intercultura’ scholarship from the Marmo Foundation. An award that will allow her to fly to Colombia to live an important life and study experience. Yesterday morning the award ceremony was given by the president of the Marmo Foundation Bernarda Franchi, the coordinator of the Stefania Corsini Foundation, the person responsible for the development of volunteering in the central area of ​​Intercultura, Laura Ceccherini, and Professor Lorenza Marchesini, teacher and president of the Intercultura volunteers of La Spezia who followed Adele and the other 4 winners of the Intercultura competition, in the different phases of the selection and training process, fundamental stages to become aware of the experience they are about to live and to equip themselves with the useful tools to be prepared to live at their best the months they will spend abroad. .

The scholarship was established by the Marmo Foundation and the Intercultura Foundation, which for over 70 years has been developing study programs for high school adolescents to develop a common sense of global citizenship. “For the Marmo Foundation, the training of young people is a priority – says president Bernarda Franchi –, we want to give them the opportunity to build the future they desire, having the skills and knowledge to spend as professionals and as men and women. We are happy to be able to deliver this Interculture scholarship to Adele Conti, who will attend a year of high school in Colombia. A unique opportunity to come into contact with different traditions, culture and languages ​​and discover the world from another point of view, which certainly will enrich it.”

“The idea of ​​studying abroad came from my mother, who discovered the opportunity to obtain a scholarship – explained Adele Conti –. During the bureaucratic process I never stopped dreaming of leaving, although all At the beginning I was undecided due to the fear of leaving my loved ones and my activities. After careful reflection I concluded that if I won, I could acquire new skills and perspectives. By passing tests and questionnaires I felt increasingly closer to I am grateful to the host family, aware that they will also need an adaptation period. I will try to learn the language quickly to facilitate communication and school integration. I want to learn as much as possible, and if welcome, share with their aspects of Italian culture and of my city, Carrara, whose experience allowed me to obtain this scholarship”.

Already in 2018, the Marmo Foundation had allowed two deserving local students to study in Argentina and the United States, and thus access an invaluable opportunity for international and intercultural training. The Marmo Foundation is deeply convinced of the educational value of this experience and of the need to allow access to it to deserving students, without financial constraints, and has therefore activated a partnership with the Interculture Foundation for the next school year.
