After the various episodes of the past few days, today in the Catanzaro prison, two other prison officers were attacked by a prisoner of foreign origin from the medium security department with a 10-day prognosis. It all happened because the prisoner, returning from family meetings, without any reason, threw himself at the policemen, slamming one of them into the bus and hitting the other on the finger with a pole. This was made known by the provincial delegate of the CGIL Roberto Garcea together with the regional Angelo Boeti who express their bitterness at the situation that has been in force for some time in the Catanzaro prison.
Drastic and urgent measures
“We don’t dare think – they say – what will happen when in a few weeks a large number of prison officers retire who, with their experience, are collaborating significantly to ensure that the departments function at their best and at the same time the policemen’s holiday plan begins . Drastic and urgent measures must be taken to ensure that colleagues are protected in the face of prisoners who claim to do in detention what they do outside. We must applaud the commander who, with his presence, immediately made it possible to secure the personnel. The police are tired of suffering violence in the largest institution in Calabria. We need to bring in new forces as soon as possible to allow the staff to recover.”
