An important afternoon, today 13 June, for the fight against mafias and the diffusion of the culture of legality in Avellino. The association Freeknown throughout the national territory for its almost thirty-year civil commitment in the battle against all forms of organized crime, has reconstituted the safeguard of legality in the capital of Irpinia with the aim of involving citizens in their initiatives. A new course that was celebrated with a ceremony that took place this afternoon at the Auditorium of the Youth Center in Via Morelli e Silvati in the presence of Don Luigi Ciottinational president and founder of Libera.

“The mafia plague and corruption are very serious problems that affect our entire country, today more than ever. The mafias take on new characteristics: they are transnational, they use great technologies and, above all, the big bosses have all become entrepreneurs and managers. And therefore there is a new interpretation that is imposed in the fight against criminal violence” declared Don Luigi Ciotti.
“Therefore, we must join forces to create a single one that is ethical, social, cultural and political, in the sense of service for the common good. We are here once again to push, to feed ourselves, to be non-intermittent but responsible citizens” added Libera’s founding father.

“We cannot allow the mafia to be normalized and become one of many things. This risk therefore requires great reflection on everyone’s part, an extra effort and politics must do its part” claims Don Luigi Ciotti who has returned to also talk about knitwear factory “100Fedici passi”, property confiscated from the Graziano clan in the Irpinia municipality of Diecici and returned to the community through its conversion into a textile company. A structure that could have provided work and dignity to an area but which today is closed and left to decay. “It was necessary to provide continuity after the inauguration. Creating the conditions for legality projects to move forward truly concerns all the realities of the context and the territory. I know it is not simple, but there should also be good will on the part of politicians because that knitwear factory represents a symbol of great value but there is a need for concreteness and the closure of that asset is a great defeat, a wound. We must ensure that a solution is found: uniting the forces of the territories, of the entrepreneurs, of the Chamber of Commerce, but someone must manage the situation intelligently. The government also has its role. Confiscation must be treated with seriousness and attention.”
