VITERBO – Friday 14 June 2024, at 5 pm, in the Church of SS. Giacomo and Martino in Viterbo, in the presence of the mayor of Viterbo and civil and academic authorities, the exhibition will be inaugurated The wandering Etruscan. Vincenzo Bianchini, doctor and artist from Viterbo, desired and organized in synergy by the Department of Humanities, Communication and Tourism Sciences (DISUCOM) of the University of Tuscia, by the International Association of Studies on the Mediterranean and the Orient (ISMEO) and by L’Alveare Cinema, with the patronage of the Lazio Region and the Municipality of Viterbo and the participation of the Order of Malta/Delegation of Viterbo. The exhibition, supported by funding from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of University and Research, can be visited free of charge every day from 14 to 23 June 2024.

To celebrate the figure of the artist on Wednesday On 19 June 2024, an international conference will be held in the Aula Magna of the University of Tuscia, promoted by the DISUCOM Department and ISMEO, during which Majid Lashkari’s volume will be presented Vincenzo Bianchini. Doctor | Writer | Poet and artist (Rome, ISMEO, 2024), in the presence of the author.

The exhibition includes the exhibition of numerous works by Bianchini (mainly paintings, drawings, watercolours, but also some small sculptures and other material) which mark different moments of his rich production and will also contain original audiovisual material. Documentary material of various kinds (published works, photos, manuscripts, newspaper articles that have given an account of VB’s experiences and artistic production over the years) will also be exhibited in the DISUCOM premises, on the occasion of the conference.

THEThe overall exhibition/conference project, says the director of DISUCOM Ela Filippone, aims to explore the complex and exceptional figure of the Viterbo doctor Vincenzo Bianchini (Viterbo 1903 – Zurich 2000) and to keep the memory alive in the places where he was born. A multifaceted doctor and artist, Bianchini lived a long part of his life outside Italy, in particular in Iran (1951-1960 and then 1967-1979), in Congo (1961-1966) and in Algeria (1967), and on these terre has moved in the continuous search for marginalized areas, where he can take care of and restore dignity to a derelict humanity, driven by his own universalistic and spiritualistic conception of existence, on which he has built the path of a life as a doctor in continuous movement. Bianchini left testimony to his exceptional human, professional and cultural experiences, as well as his inner drives and his personal vision of the world, through the written word (novels and poems, published and unpublished) and his artistic production, which includes drawings, paintings and sculptures. His work has achieved notoriety in Italy and abroad, and above all in Iran, a country towards whose people he felt deeply connected and humanly similar, and where he formed bonds with some of the most famous personalities of culture and art contemporary to him.

The relevance of Bianchini’s legacy is also demonstrated by his very special, intimate and vital relationship with nature, often the subject of his artistic expression, which allowed him to warn in advance the dangers to the integrity of planet earth resulting from abuses of industrialized society and the recklessness of human actions. During the conference there will be a screening of original audiovisual material, edited for the occasion by Paolo Bianchini, director and son of Vincenzo
