Saturday 15 June at 6pm Evening mass. Sunday 16 June at 12 pm Solemn mass and 6 pm Evening mass. At the end of the celebrations, prayer and veneration of the reliquary bust of Sant’Imerio.
Himerius was one of the monks who, at the end of the 5th century, evangelized the Umbrian countryside. Elected bishop of Amelia, he found himself leading the city in one of the most tragic periods of the early Middle Ages, that of the Gothic War (535-543), and he was also the city’s defender; like other bishops of the region, from Ercolano of Perugia, to Fortunato of Todi, to Cassio of Narni, immediately after his death he was venerated as a patron.
During the 10th century – as happened throughout Europe, where many cities tried to acquire the relics of some saint – the bishop of Cremona, Liutprand, took the relics from the altar on which they were venerated and brought them to his city, of which Himerius became patron and where they are still venerated in the crypt of the local cathedral. Saint Imerio remained one of Amelia’s co-patrons and his liturgical memory is celebrated on 17 June.

The celebrations will be streamed on the YouTube channel: Basilica Concattedrale Santa Fermina Amelia.
