Summer Fest in Rho: every Thursday evening no drinks in glass containers and no alcohol

Starting from this evening and for every Thursday in June and July it is scheduled Thursday Summer Fest in Piazza San Vittore and Jannacci in Rho. Since hundreds of people are expected in the centre, in order to guarantee public order and safety for everyone, Mayor Andrea Orlandi has signed a union ordinance which prohibits the sale and consumption of drinks in bottles, glasses or glass containers from 6pm every Thursday, from 13 June to 26 July, until 6am every Friday and the consumption of alcoholic beverages within the parks without any day or time limit.

The evening openings of commercial establishments and public places, from experience, bring with them a notable influx of people. In the past, the abandonment of broken bottles or glass has caused danger to people: there have been episodes of carelessness and improper use of the shards. Breaking glass objects pose a potential danger, especially to children. It also causes trouble for ecological operators who have to remove such remains from streets and gardens. To avoid injuries to people and dangers of various kinds, the Ordinance prohibits the sale to take away of drinks contained in bottles or glasses or glass containers by public establishments and commercial activities in fixed locations, by private laboratories and clubs (with the exception for authorized administration surfaces). The ban also concerns automatic vending machines. The ban is valid in the “city center”, in the area between Corso Europa, Via Cardinal Ferrari, Via Vittorio Veneto, Via Volta, Via Torino, Piazza Libertà, Via Milano, coinciding with the evening opening of the shops. In addition to the sale, the consumption of drinks in glass containers is also prohibited.

The bans also apply outside the “city center”, within the Rhodesian borders and to protect everyone’s safety. In city parks, without day or time limits, the consumption of alcoholic beverages of any strength, the consumption or availability of drinks in bottles, glasses or glass containers is prohibited. The local police and law enforcement agencies are responsible for enforcing the ordinance. Transgressions will be punished with fines of 500 euros for public establishments; 50 euros for consumers of drinks in glass containers. «The Ordinance – explains mayor Andrea Orlandi – arises from the evaluation of what happened in the past. Avoiding alcohol in parks and bottles or glasses scattered everywhere should serve to maintain a summer festive atmosphere without endangering the people who will flock to our squares and along the streets to celebrate the summer.”
