Our Masterpilot Emiliano Perucca Orfei interviewed Antonello Coletta and Ferdinando Cannizzo on the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024: this is the atmosphere at Ferrari

QThis weekend it will be on stage the 2024 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Endurance classic which last year was won by Ferrari, returning to the premier class with an official team after 50 years. 12 months after that historic success, how is the Red team experiencing this event? “I believe that the protagonists could be at least three or four, perhaps even five manufacturers – he observes Antonello Coletta, Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti of Ferrari, to the microphones of our Masterpilot, Emiliano Perucca Orfei -. There is a group of more than ten cars that could aim for overall victory, and this must make us stay very focused on preparing and managing the race. It will not be easy”.
“Obviously we go to Le Mans to win – underlines Coletta – but we are not the only ones with this objective. It will be essential to be consistent, reliable and be able to aspire to the podium. I think if we were to meet at fight in the top positions we would play it all the way. The important thing will be to stay there until the end, to try to make an impact like we did last year”. The winning recipe, this, which resulted in the Ferrari 499P n. 51 of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Fuoco and James Calado the overall success at Le Mans.
“Le Mans was probably a perfect race – he reflects Ferdinando Cannizzo, Ferrari Head of Endurance Race Cars, on the 2023 edition – but we must also look at the championship. We need to start accumulating victories in the other races too, that’s what we’re missing. We cannot say that we have achieved perfection. We are certainly happy this year in the first races, with the performances we achieved, despite the lack of results and victories.” Cannizzo, however, also looks to the future of the Ferrari 499P in terms of development. “We still have unexplored areas of performance – he explains – and therefore it is right to complete this journey. On the other hand, you never stand still in motorsport. For this reason we have already identified some areas in which to intervene.”
