Thanks to the immediate intervention of the police officers of the Catania Police Headquarters, a one and a half year old child with serious respiratory problems was saved. The incident occurred in Acireale, where a woman was running in panic with her child among passing cars in via Torquato Tasso. The woman, of North African origin, stopped a police car and asked for help for her son who was having difficulty breathing. The policemen from the Acireale police station tried to reassure the woman and immediately took care of the child, who had significant problems despite the airways being clear.

Fortunately, the officers noticed the Red Cross car and asked the two volunteers on board to accompany mother and son to the hospital. The police car led the way for the Red Cross car, while the operations room of the police station alerted the emergency room doctors of the child’s imminent arrival. After an urgent medical examination, the child was considered code red due to severe respiratory failure. Thanks to the prompt intervention, the child was saved and is no longer in danger. The following day, the policemen who participated in the rescue, Giuseppe and Fabio, visited the child in hospital, giving him a few smiles and some police gadgets.
