In the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Brescia with responsibility for mobility policies Federico Manzoni, prizes were awarded yesterday to six of the over 12 thousand Brescia residents who joined the initiative “And how do you get around Brescia?”. The award ceremony was also an opportunity to present and illustrate the results of the online survey which aims to update the databases on the movements of those traveling in Brescia and to collect useful information for monitoring the implementation of the Urban sustainable mobility plan (Pums).

Alongside the short, medium and long-term objectives envisaged in the Plan, it provides for a periodic monitoring mechanism, functional both to verifying the effectiveness of the interventions carried out and to updating the modal split, i.e. the distribution of citizen movements according to the different modes of transport.

The sample of data collected, statistically expanded to include the total population involved, allows us to reconstruct a total of over 1 million movements per day in the city (12% more than in 2022 and only 1.6% less than in 2019), a symptom of a demand for mobility now back to pre-pandemic levels.

Compared to the total movements of residents in the city, people move mainly for study or work reasons (66%), followed by leisure/sport/free time (14%), personal errands (12%) and accompaniment/company visits family members (8%).

As regards the types of means used, the different forms of sustainable mobility total 60%, which is divided into 34% public transport, 21% cycling and 15% pedestrianisation, while the private car corresponds to 39% of overall movements.

The behavior of uncommon residents is different, who come and move to the city even more mainly for study or work reasons (79%), followed by leisure/sport/free time (8%), personal errands (8%) and accompaniment/visits of family members (5%)

The preference of the means used is also different. Sustainable mobility in this case represents 30% of trips, which are divided into 26% of public transport and 4% of cycling, while the use of private cars is prevalent in 65% of cases.

To further promote participation – with the aim of collecting as much data as possible on travel in the city, regardless of the means of transport used and the destination of the trip – 6 prize draws were made available to all participants: 2 pedal bicycles assisted, 2 annual season tickets for local public transport in the urban area (zone 1 + 2) and 2 deductible passes – 200 euros each – for the use of city parking facilities (with the exception of the Vittoria car park).

The participants profiled in the survey were over 9,000 (almost 10% more than in 2022) and they tracked over 21,000 trips made.
