The single judge of the Court of Latina, Simona Sergio, ordered the precautionary custody in prison for the 35-year-old Algerian Iachdar Zermane, who was tried immediately after his arrest in flagrante delicto on the night of 11 June. The lawyer asked for a deadline for the defense and the direct trial was postponed. The man explained that he had broken the window of the Sky point near the Carabinieri barracks in Latina because he had no money and where to get it to support him. The judge ordered prison because, among other things, the 35-year-old is homeless and has no home where he can serve the precautionary measure. This is why the Algerian was handcuffed and taken to prison by the Flying Squad officers.

Two days ago, the The 35-year-old was responsible for the theft from the city center shop and for aggravated damage. In fact, Iachdar Zermane damaged the Sky sales point located in Piazza della Libertà, a stone’s throw from the barracks of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Latina.

The officers, having received the report from the operations room, immediately arrived on the scene, finding the man who had broken the window and was trying to escape through the broken glass. With him some IT objects, including computers, worth around 4 thousand euros. Without hesitation, the policemen blocked him and, despite his attempt to free himself from their grip, arrested him.

The man, already known to the police as he was already allegedly responsible for other episodes of theft, did not maintain a cooperative attitude but rather, as soon as he was brought near the service car, he started hitting the door, damaging the window part.

The particular speed of the policemen’s intervention made it possible to avoid the escape of the person responsible, who was then taken to the Police Offices where, given the lack of documents, he was subjected to photo-tagging for identification procedures. From the identification checks, the irregularity of his presence on the national territory emerged, as he lacks a residence permit and requests for international protection; Furthermore, two expulsion orders were issued against him, one in 2022 and one in 2023.

The 35-year-old, in the hours before the damage to the shop near the Carabinieri, had been stopped by soldiers from the Radiomobile section and taken to the barracks for having smashed the window of the Bompan workshop in Borgo Isonzo. In that case, the man, by decision of the magistrate on duty, was released with a charge against him. Once out of the barracks, the new action against another business.
