PESARO – Once the mayor is made, the new president of the Hoteliers must be elected and it is no coincidence that, with the new administrative round starting, he will have a decisive role in interfacing with the mayor Andrea Biancani. Surprise move, in the middle of the tourist season, and a twist within the Apa hotel management, the Pesaro hoteliers’ association: Apa remains without a top management. He leaves president Paolo Costantini with the mandate that had already passed the halfway point but the natural deadline of 2025 is still a year away. The official announcement only arrived yesterday but already a couple of weeks ago the president had communicated his intention to resign in a letter to members.
The letter
«Personal motivations» limits itself to reporting Costantini, elected to lead the association in 2021, but there are rumors among operators and workers in the sector as to what pushed him to leave. A certain “tiredness” accumulated especially in the last period is palpable. «Irrevocable decision» confirms the hotelier who decided to leave the position almost a year early without waiting for the natural deadline. This is the official one. As for the unofficial nature, it is above all a succession of rumors among colleagues about what pushed him to leave and formalize the decision at the beginning of the summer, the season that represents his highlight for every hotelier. There are rumors of increasingly marked disagreements within the board of directors in the last weeks before the vote. Rumors that arose in particular after the discussions with the mayoral candidates which were organized by the association and focused on specific requests such as the project to renovate the entire seafront, or the need for new car parks in Ponente and Levante. In the meantime, on May 2nd Costantini was elected to lead the provincial Federalberghi, succeeding Luciano Cecchini from Fano, the association linked to Confcommercio. A role, however, that was certainly not incompatible with the leadership of the APA. «We take note of this – comments Roberto Signorini, hotelier and member of the board – I believe that within us there are valid people who will be able to represent the category, and will continue the path taken in recent years under Paolo’s mandate in the name of sharing. In my opinion, the final choice should fall on a motivated, enterprising and pragmatic personality. It is clear that our city is very interesting, regardless of the year as Capital and you just have to believe it. I have already been at the helm of Apa and I make room for others.”
What happens now
Fabrizio Oliva, the historic former president of Apa and one of the candidates for mayor with the civic group Spazi Liberi, is not currently thinking of taking back the leadership of Apa. In all the names, according to the voices of colleagues, we do not exclude the Filippetti (father or son) linked to Charlie, Excelsior and Nautilus or the Gasparini family of the Clipper or, again, the combative Loredana Ceccarelli of the Delle Nazioni hotel. The process: the internal procedure at Apa hotel for the presentation of new applications has just been opened. Expressions of interest, Oliva reports, have not yet arrived. However, you still have until Monday. The new appointment will have to wait until the end of this month, when the Apa hotel assembly will be convened to approve the budget, and on that occasion the new president will also be elected.
