Casorate Sempione (Varese) – Continues the construction site of the new railway connection between Terminal 2 of Malpensa airport and the Sempione railway linethe project is developing in recent weeks with the construction works of all the planned tunnels and trenches, starting from the structures below the airport grounds up to the interconnection with the Sempione RFI section. So starting from Malpensa T2 station, the roofing structures of the 310 meter long artificial tunnel are being built. During this week, construction of the arched structures of the subsequent natural tunnel, 385 meters long, will begin from the entrance on the south side.

Towards Gallarate-Casorate Sempione the work on the 65 meter long artificial tunnel continues, with the simultaneous completion of the works necessary to move the RFI even track, whose activation is scheduled for July 22nd. The works are carried out by Salc Spa.

The realization of this work will therefore allow us to enhance itineraries towards the Milan area. The airport will thus become an interchange hub with short and medium-range, high-speed and cross-border rail services, activation is scheduled for December 2025.

The investment is 257,553,700 euros, to the 211,340,000 euros initially foreseen and already financed, the Italian Government, with the Prime Ministerial Decree of 8 September 2023 (Overall plan for the Olympic works), added a loan of 46,213,700 euros as a “price adjustment”, i.e. to cover the price increases materials compared to the time the tender was launched. It should be remembered that the work was contested from the beginning by committees and environmentalists due to its heavy environmental impact. The project is progressing, in view of the activation of the service new connection in December 2025.
