As reported by Motorsport.com, Top Gun Maverick Vinales will leave the official Aprilia team to join KTM, specifically the structure managed in tandem by Tech3 and the Pierer Mobility group, parent company of the Austrian company that competes under the GasGas brand. And as they wanted to demonstrate, Pit Beier’s “weakness” towards Vinales proved to be true.
The Spanish driver will join the Italian Enea Bastianini in his new adventure, after the latest market movements saw the Italian being displaced by Marc Marquez for the official Ducati seat for next season and with Binder and Acosta in official KTM.
With Vinales now set to join KTMmeans that Aprilia will lose both of its current factory riders, with Aleix Espargaro having already announced his decision to retire from MotoGP at the end of the year to become Honda’s official test rider.
According to reports Motorsport.com, the Spaniard had no intention of abandoning the Noale home which welcomed him with open arms after the abrupt separation with Yamaha. But after the farewell of captain Espargaro, things took an “unexpected” turn on Monday after the Italian Grand Prix, when Aprilia announced it had signed Jorge Martin from Pramac.
Who will replace Vinales in Aprilia Racing?
It remains to be seen who will occupy Aprilia’s second official RS-GP, although the current VR46 riders Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio are seen as the most likely candidates. In his three years of experience with Aprilia, Maverick Vinales has so far achieved one victory in the Austin Grand Prix and a total of seven podiums.
